Phoneography! April 19, 2012

Filed under: Photography — hogwartsphotographer @ 1:17 pm

So. I have recently become an avid fan of Phoneography. I first came across this term on Photojojo, and the idea didn’t really appeal to me at first. A few weeks ago, though, I decided to download a photography app to my Android (RetroCamera). I tried it out, and was amazed. Basically, I went OMG THESE PHOTOS LOOK AMAZING WHY DIDN’T I EVER TRY THIS BEFORE?! Yeah, I liked it. I explored all the different cameras available on the app, and settled on one I liked. Here’s one of the first photos I took with the app:

ImageThis is simply a photo of the pen-slot on my Wacom tablet. I like it, because it makes something as ordinary as a tablet look rather mysterious.

Some more photos:

Image1. My beloved Polaroid.

2. When I showed this to my mother, she told me it looked like something that had to do with time travel. I agree!

3. We stopped at a gas station a few weeks ago on a trip, and we were near an airport.

4. A simple glass of ginger ale.

So, yes, I have become quite the fan of this type of photography, and look forward to experimenting further with it!

We Are Young February 21, 2012

I haven’t written anything in ages! Quite sorry. So, the reason I’m writing today is that you need to know about a song, similar to the post I wrote about Dog Days Are Over. The song today: We Are Young, by Fun. featuring Janelle Monae. I had seen the name of the song before, on the Top Lists playlist on Spotify,  but had never actually heard it. So I decided to listen to it. And I was in love. The very first time listening to it, I was almost in awe; the song starts out rather quiet and toned-down, but soon turns into this amazing, inspiring sound. It’s powerful, the type of song one might hear at the end of an awesome film. It makes me feel happy and encouraged, rather the same way that Shake It Out (by Florence + the Machine) does.

I could (and I do!) sit at my computer with my headphones in, the sound turned up all the way, and listen to We Are Young over and over again. It’s THAT good.

So. Go listen to it. And tell me what you think!

Tonight we are young

So let’s set the world on fire

We can burn brighter than the sun

December Diptychs December 2, 2011

Filed under: Photography — hogwartsphotographer @ 10:40 pm

Ah! It’s been so long since I’ve written anything! My apologies. But I have something to write about every day this month! Hooray. Yesterday, I started a photo project for December with one of my best friends, who is a photographer as well, and excellent at it. Each day in December we’re both taking a picture that corresponds with a theme we came up with, and then combining the two photos into a diptych. I’m very excited. So, without further ado, here is our diptych for December 1:

Homeschoolers Know How to Party October 30, 2011

So, yeah, last night was one of the best nights of my life.

One of my school friends hosted a Halloween-ish party. I say
‘ish’ because it wasn’t really celebrating Halloween, but it was really near
and we dressed up and stuff. And my gosh…we danced. And danced. And danced. So much epic music.

And this is how we dance. Lots of jumping around, arm-waving, hair-swinging and such. I had no idea what I was doing most of the time, and I’m sure I looked a little strange at times. But I don’t care.

Eventually someone put on Journey and we all sang Don’t Stop Believin’ at the top of our lungs. Also, one of my friends requested Lady Gaga’s Poker Face, and we had a blast dancing and singing along to that. The party started around 7, and we were still dancing, a lot, at 10:30. And then our tired little legs started to get sore from jumping around so much. But then the music started up again, and we were back at it. We eventually collapsed in the car to go home at 11:30. So sore. So, so sore. But so happy and elated, because of the amazing party. Best living room party EVER. EVERRRR. And, pretty much, I have the best friends. EVER.

And we really know how to dance.

I really love when you hear a song, and you’ve only heard it a few times, and suddenly realize how wonderful and amazing that song is. This happened to me with a song on my Pandora playlist.

The [quite amazing] song was Dog Days Are Over by Florence + the Machine. I had only heard it once or twice before, when it started playing on Pandora again. I realized then what a beautiful song it was. It was a happy song. A breathtaking song. I wasn’t doing anything, so I just listened, hard. I stayed completely silent so as to preserve the whole sound of it in my mind. The lyrics were on the page, so I stared at them and willed myself to memorize them. Eventually, I could sing the whole song to myself. (I actually could belt it out quite loud if I was home alone for long enough.)

I think I loved this song so much at first because, besides being wonderful, I was only able to hear it every so often (since it was on Pandora). Although, I did decide recently that I loved Dog Days Are Over so much that I just had to buy it. But, I know I’ll still love it as much as I did before. (:

[this is just me, telling the world (or maybe a slightly smaller group) that I love this song, and that other people need to listen to it. kaybye.]

The dog days are over,

the dog days are gone,

the horses are coming,

so you better run.

old cameras are awesome. September 28, 2011

Filed under: Photography — hogwartsphotographer @ 9:33 pm

This camera, the Contessa-Nettel Fiduca, has been in my house, unopened, for around 18 years. I think it had been at my dad’s parents’ before it was at our house. My parents and I had tried to open it before, but couldn’t figure it out and we were slightly afraid we would break it trying.

Recently, though, my parents were able to open it. My mom showed me it as soon as they opened it, and I was so happy/excited/freaked out. I had seen cameras like these before in photos, and I think my friend has one sort of like it. I was really happy to have one actually in my house.

I really love old cameras. Maybe it’s because I wasn’t around to use cameras like them. They are just so artistically and creatively made. So detailed. I really wish I could have seen someone developing the film after they carefully took a shot, carefully because once it’s taken, there’s no going back on it. I wish I could have seen the expression on someone’s face as they finished developing the photo, and they saw a little bit of real life, on a little sheet of paper; something they had seen, and was real and living, was now captured forever in an unmoving, unchanging, photograph.

So yeah, old cameras are just pretty awesome. (:

Hello, there. I’m Anne. I’m a highschooler who loves photography, Harry Potter, Parks and Recreation, and Doctor Who. I have extremely curly hair which I get extremely frustrated with sometimes. I love my cats, and musicals, too. I started a blog because I thought’d it be cool, and I wanted to see if my life was really actually interesting at all. Also, I kinda got tired of Facebook and Flickr for a while. ;)

So, I’m going to try to actually keep with writing on this thing. We’ll just see how that turns out. :)
